Current Trends in Digital Rights Management:

Recently Radio Head launched their In Rainbows album to the public for FREE and more importantly the music is DRM FREE. Yes you heard me right it is free music, which this author personally enjoys. Why would they do this you may ask? Well the trick is that they allow you to contribute any amount of money you would like to the band.

Believe it or not there are people who will give money for good content. What this band did was cut out the middle man, the record label. The created a direct line to their consumers.

I do not believe that this tactic would work for any band, especially one that wasnt established. However, for established band it may be a great option. Other bands that jumped on the "band wagon" pardon the pun are Nine Inch Nails and Madonna.

How ironic would it be if the Napster destroyer also known as Metallica embrased the DRM Free Music movement?
